Don’t know about you guys overseas but here in London winter is finally upon us, that ‘extra 5 minutes in bed’ seems like the hardest part of my day because I want to put off going out in the cold as much as possible. Thankfully the awesome guys over at Burton Menswear decided to send me one of the best coat styles to keep me warm and dry this winter – The Navy Shower Resistant Mac.
Burton are currently running a great heritage inspired piece about the Origins of Outerwear which includes fantastic overviews of coat/jacket styles for the current AW season such as smarter blazers, macs, parkas and pea coats. Whether you love that lighter weight jacket that’s just right for layering or a heavier coat to battle the breezes, Burton have got you covered.
Origins of Outerwear – The Mac
The mac, also known as a trench coat, dates back to the 1850s and were cemented in history after WW1. After the war ended the trench coat / mac became adopted by UK subcultures such as the mods and beatniks. The modern trench coat is a much shorter cut than you’re used to but pair this up with a simple button down and a knitted jumper and you’re good to go. If you shop online the green version of the same coat is available only on the Burton site so check out a little inspiration moodboard I put together
1 – Navy Shower Resistant Mac // £65.00
1 – White Stretch Skinny Fit Shirt // £22.00
2 – Green Shower Resistant Mac (Online Only) // £65.00
3 – Purple Geometric Patterned Jumper // £25.00
Make sure you check out the other coats and jackets in the Origin of Outerwear feature as each of the items deserves it’s place in the fashion hall of fame and even though their designs may change every year the original essence of the style still remains and should features in any respectable winter wardrobe.
